Aujourd’hui, les participants au programme des Eaux curatives ont passé un après-midi bien spécial. En présence de leurs accompagnateurs et instructeurs, ils ont été réunis pour une première leçon de fabrication de mouches. L’Adjudant-chef M. Dessureault (ret), vice-président de la Fondation Général Vanier a été invité à présenter officiellement les trousses de montage aux participants. La contribution de la Fondation Général Vanier, de l’Association du Royal 22e Régiment, permettra à chacun de faire ses propres montages de mouches et ainsi de conserver la trousse à la fin du programme. Grâce aux dons provenant de divers organismes, ainsi que de gens talentueux et volontaires pour enseigner la technique, le programme pourra encore cette année, poursuivre son objectif. À tous les participants nos veux de réussite vous accompagnent tout au long de cette expérience.

 

Program Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada, Division Québec, Qc

Today, participants from Quebec section of Healing Waters have passed a very special afternoon. In the presence of their leaders and instructors, they were reunited for the first lesson in making flies. Chief Warrant Officer Dessureault (Retd), Vice President of the Foundation General Vanier was invited to formally present the fly tying kits to the participants. The contribution from the General Vanier’s foundation, from the Association of the Royal 22nd Regiment, will allow everyone to create and tied their own flies and keep their kit at the end of the program. Thanks to donations from various organizations and talented people and volunteers to teach the technique, the program will again this year, pursue its goal. To all our participants want success accompany you throughout this experience. .

A new fishing season is at our door step, in preparation for this coming season, the Québec Director Gervais Jeffrey with the collaboration of 4 volunteers instructor has started a new fly tying course followed by a fly casting course with 12 injured soldiers from the Valcartier Garrison.
With the participation from numerous and generous donators, I was able to assemble 12 fly tying kits for the participants. The donations range from tying material, tools and financial support.

Une autre saison de pêche est à nos portes, Le directeur des Eaux Curative de Québec, Gervais Jeffrey et avec l’aide de 4 instructeurs volontaires, ont débuté une séance de montage de mouches et suivi d’un cours de lancer.
Grâce à de généreux donateurs, nous avons pu assembler 12 trousses de montage. Les dons furent support financiers, don de matériel ou outils de montage.
Ces trousses seront utilisées par les participants qui sont tous des blessés de l’Afghanistan

PROJECT HEALING WATERS FLY FISHING CANADA, QUEBEC DIVISION:

The General Vanier Foundation from the Association of the Royal 22^e Regiment, recently contributed $1,000.00 in support for the 2012 activities for the Quebec Branch of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada.  The program assists fifteen military members from the Valcartier Garrison in the rehabilitation process for physical or emotional injury by teaching them the principles of fly fishing and fly tying.  At the end of the teaching period, a fishing trip is planned where they can try out their newly learned skills and share their personal field experiences.  During this period, participants’ will be supervised by qualified resource persons to assist them in this therapy. We wish them a great experience.

PROJETS DES EAUX CURATIVES PAR LA PÊCHE À LA MOUCHE DIVISION QUÉBEC.

La fondation Général Vanier de l’Association du Royal 22^e Régiment, encourage le projet des eaux Curatives par la pêche à la mouche du Canada et verse une contribution de 1000,00$ pour supporter ces acticités de l’année 2012.  Ce programme regroupe une quinzaine de militaires, en phase de réadaptation physique et émotionnelle de la Garnison Valcartier.  Ce programme permettra à ces personnes  de faire un bout de chemin à travers une thérapie fort intéressante. En effet,  le programme vise l’enseignement des principes de la pêche à la mouche et à la fabrication de mouches.  À la fin de la période d’enseignement, une sortie est prévue où ils pourront performer leur art et partager ensemble des moments de vécu personnel.  Pendant tout ce temps, les participants seront encadrés  per des personnes ressources et très bien qualifiés pour les accompagner dans cette thérapie.  Nous leur souhaitons une très belle expérience.

Bow River Shuttles is hosting the 4th Annual Backcast Film Festival in Calgary, Alberta at the Cardel Theatre 180 Quarry Park Blvd. The proceeds from this amazing event will go to support Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada.
On Feb 12, 2011 there will be two screenings, one matinee and one evening. Each show will have a different lineup of films. Shows are at 1pm and 6:30pm. Follow this link to find out more about the show, where you are able to buy advance tickets as well as the directions to the Cardel Theatre.
There will be a short presentation about Project Healing Waters Canada as well. We hope to see everyone there, come out and support the Film Makers and our Canadian Heroes who have risked everything in support of our country.

Dwayne Miller or “Salmon Chaser” as he is known, was born and raised on Prince Edward Island. Dwayne fishes the Morell River, the West River and sometimes the Margaree River in Cape Breton.
Dwayne is very active in supporting the environment that the Atlantic Salmon inhabit on PEI . When he is not fishing Dwayne is active in too many other aspects of the sport to mention here. Suffice it to say, you will travel many miles before you find another fly fisher who is as well experienced.
dwayne started fishing at the age of 5 years and discovered Atlantic Salmon in 1988, an addiction he continues to feed.
In Dwayne’s own words:

I am a happily married father of two and my kids, I am happy to report have a great interest in flyfishing and tying. I started a flytying/guiding business in 1996 that fills in nicely between my real career as a commercial lobsterman. I am an outspoken individual when it comes to conservation of species,particularly Salar, and have been 100% Catch and release for close to 20 years. I can also boast that I have never killed an Atlantic Salmon, something I am very proud to say. Recently my business (Fly Fish The Island) was recognized by the Atlantic Salmon Federation with a “commitment to live Release” certificate. Something I am also very proud of.
My friend(and mentor) Scott Mitchell started me off one winter tying a few for the up coming spring season. I hooked and landed my first salmon on a fly i tied myself. I’ll never forget Scotty for the path he started me on!!!
I have aways followed the creed of the salmon tyer in that I like a durable fly and a little fuller profile. I like the mantra that your hook should rust before the fly comes apart. I think what my flies bring to the sport is quality, and soul. I like that my flies and my style of tying have been born out of 100′s of days on the water and figuring out what seems to work and what is just hype. As an example I can say that a neat head is a must(for durability) head size is just a selling point,, nothing more. Some tyers that have made a mark on my style were Poul Jorgenson and Warren Duncan.

Dwayne stepped in to help when an individual Soldier contacted us and asked if we could place him in a program. I told Dwayne about him and a few short months later when the Charlottetown Fly Tyers began their winter meetings, Dwayne took him along.
