Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada (PHWFFC or Project Healing Waters Canada), serves military personnel who have been wounded, injured or disabled, to aid their physical and emotional recovery by introducing or rebuilding the skills of fly fishing and fly tying and by using and enjoying these skills on fishing outings and as lifelong recreation.
Because the work with clients is done on an outpatient basis, the program will use existing clubs, organizations and individuals in areas that have veterans who need what is offered through our programs.
While emphasis will be put on providing these activities to existing and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces, participants from other organizations such as the RCMP, other Canadian Police Members, EMS personnel and brain trauma victims, will be included in the activities promoted by Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada, should they be directed to us by appropriate professional parties (Doctors, counselors).
The Project’s program provides basic fly fishing, fly casting and fly tying classes and clinics for the wounded and injured personnel ranging from beginners to those with prior fly fishing and tying experience who are adapting their skills to their new abilities. All activities and services are provided to the participants at no cost. Fly fishing and tying equipment and materials are provided to the participants, including equipment that accommodates their special needs, as we are able to provide it.
The Project’s training and educational activities are designed to ignite or rekindle the participants’ appreciation and enthusiasm for a wide variety of fly fishing outings. While most of these fishing trips are conducted within a half-day’s travel from a hospital, the Project actively seeks opportunities to offer outings in quality fishing sites across the county.
The trips, near and far, are provided at no cost to the participants. The Project relies on individual volunteers, and independent fly fishing clubs to conduct the program at locations best suited to the outpatients and the supporting clubs. The volunteer staff and outings leaders include professional educators and fishing guides as well as experienced fly fishers, all of whom donate their time and knowledge to support the Project participants. Other volunteers help meet the educational, equipment, outings, training, and transportation needs.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada, Inc. strives primarily to effectively serve the deserving past and present members of those covered by the Canadian Department of Veterans affairs who have made great sacrifices in the service of our Country.
We work closely with public and private support groups (civilian), and Soldier On – a function of the Canadian military.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada is a registered charity and Tax Receipts will be issued for donations made to our programs.

This is so cool! Here I am, a 50-something Mountie, suffering from PTSD as a result of my employment, thinking that fishing might be something relaxing to get into, and here you are!!

Can you please drop me an e-mail, I talked to Ray shortly but I need to know where I can send a donation from the LEO Club in Lethbridge. I brought PHWFF up as a potential recipient of donations from the club and it was voted in. All I need is the particulars. Thanks! Great work!
Brian, the e-mail is sent. My thanks to you and the LEO Club for your support. Your reputation precedes you and if you ever wish to show some soldiers a bit of casting the door is always open…..Kerry
Please send me the particulars for making donations to PHWFFC. A group of us from the Alberta Outdoorsmen Forum will be having a small 50/50 draw on the weekend of June 19th, with one of the “50s” going to a charity or organization. PHWFFCC is one of the organizations that will be voted on. I would like the required donation information for all of the organizations being considered before the vote. (You’ve got my vote!).
Thanks Shelly – I’ll drop you a line right away…
